Accounting Manager

AP Professionals is partnering with a long-time friend and client to fill an Accounting Manager position. This is a newly created role in the real estate / property management industry. This organization is building a strong finance team, and the expectation is for everyone to grow with the company. The path for this new hire is to become the Controller. • Administer and maintain all company financial records including books of original entry, supporting schedules and subsidiary ledgers.
• Assist in the development of accounting policies and procedures. Periodically review and adjust procedures as necessary to improve efficiency and effectiveness of finance department.
• Perform monthly income statement review to assist Facilities in controlling costs and improving portfolio profitability.
• Review quarterly financial reports prepared for investors and ensure reports are provided timely.
• Provide special reporting and analysis of financial information to senior management.
• Manage the annual year-end close process, including the review of tax workbooks prepared by property accountants. Work closely with outside accounting firm and respond to requests for information as needed.
• Oversee annual budget process, working closely with Facilities and Leasing departments to ensure accuracy and timeliness of budgets to be approved by senior management.
• Manage annual NNN (CAM, insurance, taxes) reconciliation process to ensure performed accurately and within timeframe required per lease agreements.
• Review lease agreements entered into system by accountants to ensure relevant terms entered accurately.
• Prepare quarterly, annual, and ad hoc financial reports requested by lenders.
• Oversee accounts payable process, including review and approval of invoices and performance of bi-weekly checks runs to ensure vendors are paid timely.
• Directly supervise accounts payable specialist and treasury/mortgage specialist as well as assist in the supervision of property accountants. Provide guidance and direction to accounting employees to assist them in their professional development.
• Assist Controller in identifying value-add projects for finance department. Assign to staff and work with them to develop project plans and timeline for completion as well as meet with staff periodically to assess progress.
• Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
• Evaluate, implement, and maintain strong internal controls.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• CPA required

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• ideal candidate has both public accounting and industry experience
• open to candidates right out of public accounting if they've audited real estate clients
