AP Professionals is seeking a controller to be the financial leader for a well-established, reputable landscape design and maintenance company. This position provides oversight of the company’s financial and business operations and directly supervises the office staff.    As a key member of the management team, the controller will participate in long range planning, forecasting and evaluation of the company’s fiscal health, stability and opportunities for growth.


  • Ensures general ledger and related work papers are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Responsible for maintaining all business records in accordance with guidelines from Federal and state governments.
  • Primary responsibility for preparation of financial information for external and internal  purposes including monthly bank reporting requirements and annual review performed by the company’s certified public accountant.
  • Prepares weekly, monthly and annual management reports with analysis for use in business management.
  • Assists in the oversight of the company’s employee benefits.
  • Supervises staff in assigned departments
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate internal control environment and proper segregation of incompatible duties and functions within the business office.
  • Reviews and approves payroll register prior to payroll checks being distributed to employees.
  • Assist in management of inventory, including the maintaining perpetual inventory records, reconciliation of the physical inventory and perpetual inventory on a monthly and annual basis.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration plus a minimum of five years’ experience in accounting or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates an ability to adequately perform responsibilities of the position.


  • Technology experience that includes a working knowledge of windows based accounting software (Sage preferred) and Microsoft Office.
  • Past experience in landscape industry and working knowledge of New York State Department of Transportation and New York State Department of Motor Vehicles regulations are a plus.
