AP Professionals has partnered with a company who is looking for a Payroll Specialist. The Payroll Specialist, as a member of the Finance Department is responsible for the organizations payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with laws and regulations. This position is detail and deadline oriented, and requires strong technical and customer service skills. This is a Direct Hire position that pays $18-20/hr depending on experience.


  • Implements, maintains and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes and other deductions.
  • Reviews timesheets for accuracy and appropriate approvals.
  • Investigates and resolves any payroll issues or discrepancies.
  • Timely coordination of pay data and adjustment imports for payroll processing.
  • Reviews employee changes entered by HR; including salary, hours and departments.
  • Handles various payroll adjustments including manual checks, stop payments, check voids/reversals, outstanding check list, and retroactive payments.
  • Coordinates payroll related functions within agency, responds to all inquiries concerning payroll processing, troubleshoots as necessary.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of accounting and payroll software to ensure information is maintained and updated properly.
  • Adhere to agencies’ policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide positive interactions between Finance department and both internal and external customers.

  • Associates degree in Accounting, Bachelors preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of prior relevant payroll experience.
  • Prior experience with ADP strongly preferred
  • Prior nonprofit experience preferred.
