AP has recently partnered with a well-respected, Rochester-based company that focuses on infrastructure design. They are looking for a Project Accountant. This position, which reports to the Controller, will review and evaluate project charges for accuracy; complete cost transfers, establishing and updating funding as needed; generate detailed financial documentation for a wide range of projects varying in size, scope and complexity; and work with Project Managers to complete pre-billing reviews and cost estimates.   • Create and catalogue new projects within internal databases by reviewing initiation data and associated contracts, verifying that project integrity is established for invoicing and revenue generation purposes.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate billing of clients for services delivered in line with contract conditions, as well as the processing and submission of sub-consultant invoices.
  • Generate reports and calculations as needed to support project management efforts.
  • Assist team members throughout the monthly financial closing period, researching and consolidating information for projects to expedite processing.
  • Work with Project Managers to monitor an assigned project’s financial progress, as well as accounts receivable and collections functions.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to support proposal development efforts, providing pertinent project and financial data when required.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, sub-contractors and clients in a confident and professional manner.


  • BS (or MS) in accounting, business or a related discipline from an accredited institution.


  • At least three (3) years of experience in billing/accounting.
  • Experience involving the AEC industry, a plus.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems; project contracts; and/or change order documents is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with Deltek Vantagepoint is highly preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and best practices, as well as their application to project-related issues.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Work independently, but also work efficiently as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, can be utilized in daily correspondence with both internal and external business partners.
  • Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willing to learn new software systems as required.
  • Can be depended on to maintain confidential and meticulous records.
