Description

Bring your tax skills and join a growing corporate tax team at a highly regarded business in Rochester, NY. This position is responsible for independently supporting and  helping lead certain aspects of the enterprise-wide corporate tax function in aspects of federal and state tax compliance, planning, research, tax accounting and forecasting, audits, and strategic projects. Under the direction of management, this position is responsible for demonstrating an ability to oversee and complete specific projects and initiatives independently, while also providing tax analytical support through researching and keeping up to date on new regulations and industry trends to advance the company’s corporate tax strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and reviews the process of creating supporting work papers for federal and state and local income tax returns, and various other tax compliance filing requirements.
  • Reviews  sales tax submissions.
  • Helps to lead the analysis, preparation, and at times review of federal/state estimated tax payments and extension payments for all entities to meet tax obligations and objectives.
  • Analyzes various information and accounting transactions, performs research, and makes recommendations regarding proper application of relevant tax and accounting standards.
  • Independently coordinates tax projects as necessary, including amended tax returns, year-end planning, research, preparation of technical memoranda and communication of findings with other members of the enterprise.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of tax filings.
  • Coordinates timely response to notices received from federal, state and local taxing authorities.
  • Coordinates developing and supporting responses to Federal IRS and State audit requests and notices.
  • Assists in preparation, review, and documentation of income tax provision calculations in accordance with ASC 740 and Statutory Accounting Principles, including account reconciliations, tax basis balance sheet support and the execution of internal controls.
  • Coordinates the preparation and review federal, state and local tax filings not completed by external consultants.
  • Assists with review of returns prepared by external tax consultants and internal staff for compliance with applicable tax law.
  • Maintains enterprise tax calendar and helps to coordinate with stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by remaining current on existing and new tax regulations.
  • Develops a working knowledge of enterprise out of state employee policies and procedures as it relates to state and local taxation and assists with the application of the policy
  • Performs research and analysis surrounding the impact of out state activities on the enterprise’s state and local tax profile as it relates to premium tax, income tax, capital tax, sales and use tax, and when appropriate payroll withhold taxes.
  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of state and local taxation topics.
  • Performs other functions as assigned by management. Builds cross functional relationships to assist the businesses in the development of opportunities and assessment of risk.
  • Coaches and provides instruction to all levels professional staff

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Master of Taxation required.  CPA or CPA candidate preferred.

Experience

  • A minimum of four years of public accounting or corporate tax experience with experience in preparation of tax returns and tax provisions, helping to lead projects to completion, as well as performance and documentation of tax research.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Must be well organized and self-motivated with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and advanced spreadsheet skills.
  • Strong technical tax/accounting research skills; knowledge of tax and accounting research databases a plus.
  • Obtains a working knowledge of enterprise investment software as it pertains to tax reporting.
